The French Society of Oncological Radiotherapy was created in 1990. It followed on from the Radiotherapy Section of the French Society of Medical Radiology; this already structured and dynamic group had wished, after the success of the Radiotherapy Congress during the World Radiology Congress in Paris in 1989, to gain its autonomy. This responded to a need to bring together radiotherapy professionals whose education, diplomas, interests and working conditions were very different from those of their radiologist colleagues.
