Free contraception for minors under 15 years old

Public Health and Social Medicine

Since August 28, health insurance has covered 100% of contraception costs for minors under 15 years old. This measure is included in the 2020 Social Security budget. It is justified by the thousand pregnancies counted each year among girls aged 12 to 14. Among these, nearly three-quarters end with a voluntary termination of pregnancy (abortion). Since contraception has been free for girls aged 15 to 18, starting in 2013, the number of abortions has decreased in this age group.
