ECG interpretation according to gender

Cardiology and Vascular Medicine

LQRSV (Low QRS voltages) is associated with arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy and other cardiomyopathies. Criteria have recently been proposed for screening athletes for LQRSV. In this study, researchers evaluated these criteria on a large population of athletes (10,728, 42.5% of whom were women, mean age 18.1 years). These athletes participated in ECG screening campaigns in the USA between 2014 and 2021. QRS voltage was lower in all leads in female athletes, compared with male athletes. The prevalence of LQRSV varied between men and women, depending on the criteria used. It would be relevant to define new screening criteria for LQRSV in young athletes, specific to men and women.
