Born in 1966 in Cameroon, Etienne Brain has been working since 1998 as a medical oncologist at the Hôpital René Huguenin (Saint-Cloud, France), now part of Institut Curie since the merge happened between both institutions in 2010. He obtained his MD in Medical Oncology (1995) and a PhD (2005) from Paris-Descartes University, after undertaking preclinical and clinical works on alkylation in France and US (Dana Farber Cancer Institute & Boston University 1995-1996). He got a diploma to supervise research (Versailles/Saint-Quentin University 2010) and a diploma in Management and Health Economics (Bocconi University, Milan 2014-2015). He participates actively in several groups of Unicancer (Past-Chair of the GERICO/Unicancer group) and of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) (Past-Chair of the EORTC Breast Cancer Group BCG). He is the Past Chair of the intergroup of clinical research in geriatric oncology DIALOG (GERICO/UCOG) labeled by INCa. He has been elected as a board member and Secretary General of EORTC in 2021. He is very committed to clinical research covering both breast cancer and older populations. His most recent interest focuses on competing risks for mortality in older breast cancer patients, trying to better define the indication of systemic treatment in adjuvant setting. This is embodied in the national program ASTER 70s granted in 2011 by the French health ministry. He is an active member of ASCO, ESMO and SIOG. He is SIOG Past-President. Since 2014, he is the co-organizer of the SIOG International Course in Geriatric Oncology (Treviso, IT) with the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. He is (co)author of several publications in peer-reviewed journals, including the JAMA, Lancet Oncol and J Clin Oncol. He is member of the Editorial Board of the J Geriatric Oncol.
