Clinical stratification of patients with ALS

In this Canadian study, 149 patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and 144 healthy participants were recruited. The objective was to clinically stratify ALS patients based on in vivo brain degeneration. The patients in the study were initially stratified into early and advanced stages, with either slow or rapid progression.
Based on data analysis, the researchers demonstrated that stratification of patients according to clinical trials did not sufficiently characterize the disease stage in relation to in vivo brain degeneration. New criteria must be defined to better clinically stratify patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
