Medium-term consequences of moderate to severe head trauma
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
In this observational cohort study, researchers examined factors associated with functional outcomes at one and two years after moderate-to-severe head injury, including pre-injury and injury-related factors. In total, the study included 1,899 patients. The primary endpoint was functional outcome, measured using the Glasgow Scale - Extended. The mean age at the time of injury was 40 years, with a mean duration of post-traumatic amnesia of 26 days. In 31% of participants one year post-injury and 33.5% two years post-injury, the researchers noted a good functional recovery, with a return to previous activities, confirmed by a score of 7 to 8 on the Glasgow Scale - Extended.
