There are links between thyrotropin, thyroid hormones and obesity. At the same time, obesity is a modifiable risk factor for hyperuricemia. In this retrospective study, researchers investigated the potential link between thyroid hormone alteration and hyperuricemia in obese patients before and after sleeve gastrectomy. A total of 1,054 patients with normal thyroid function and obesity were included. Of these, 248 underwent sleeve gastrectomy. Obese patients with impaired thyroid hormone sensitivity had higher uric acid levels. The positive correlation between thyroid hormone sensitivity and hyperuricemia after surgery was found only in women.
