Using demographic and mortality data from 1970 to the present day, researchers have predicted the number of deaths and age-standardized rates for the year 2024 for all cancers and for the 10 most common cancers, including colorectal cancer. They predicted 1,270,800 cancer deaths in 2024 in the European Union, with mortality falling by 6.5% in men and 4.3% in women, compared with 2018. Colorectal cancer mortality would fall at all ages in both sexes. The biggest drop in mortality for this cancer should be seen in the over-70s. However, geographical inequalities are likely to persist between European countries.
