Physiotherapy in musculoskeletal disorders

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

This literature review and meta-analysis aimed to compare single versus multiple physiotherapy sessions for improving pain, function, and quality of life in patients with musculoskeletal disorders. A total of six randomized clinical trials, including 2,090 patients, were included in the analysis. Some studies showed a significant improvement in pain at 6 months—but not at 3 or 12 months—in favor of multiple physiotherapy sessions. However, the evidence had a low level of confidence. Regarding function and quality of life, no significant differences were observed between the two physiotherapy approaches at 3, 6, or 12 months.
