Mental health of young people with epilepsy

Neurology

In this randomized, multicenter, open-label, controlled trial, researchers evaluated the clinical efficacy of integrated mental health treatment for children and young people with epilepsy. A total of 334 young people, aged 3 to 18 (mean age 10.5), were included in the study. Participants were randomly assigned to a mental health intervention for children with epilepsy in addition to usual care, or to usual care only. The mental health intervention was found to be superior at 6 months to usual care alone in improving symptoms associated with emotional and behavioral disorders in young people with epilepsy and common mental health disorders.
