Prevalence of diabetic ketoacidosis at diagnosis of type 1 diabetes
Endocrinology and Metabolism
In this study, American researchers evaluated the prevalence and factors involved in diabetic ketoacidosis at the time of diagnosis of type 1 diabetes in participants in a clinical research program prior to diagnosis, compared with patients in the community. In total, the study involved 5,049 patients under 18 years of age, diagnosed with type 1 diabetes between 2005 and 2021. Of these, 42 patients were already involved in a clinical research program prior to diagnosis. These patients had lower glycated hemoglobin levels than those in the community, and were less likely to have diabetic ketoacidosis at the time of their diabetes diagnosis.
