Panic disorder and Alzheimer's disease

Psychiatry

Observational studies have suggested a link between panic disorder and Alzheimer's disease. Using two-sample Mendelian randomization analyses, researchers explored the causal links between these two conditions. The analyses provide evidence of a potential causal relationship between panic disorder and an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. Extensive sensitivity analyses confirmed the robustness and accuracy of the results. During the management of panic disorders, it would be pertinent to be vigilant for the existence of symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. The development of treatments that improve both panic disorders and Alzheimer's disease could lead to better patient management.
