Epigenetic regulation in osteoporosis

Rhumatology

With age, senescent cells accumulate in bone tissue, leading to imbalances in bone homeostasis, osteopenia, changes in trabecular bone structure and increased bone fragility. Mechanisms involved in the development of osteoporosis. These cellular senescence mechanisms involve osteoblasts, osteoclasts and bone marrow mesenchymal cells. The effects of these cells on bone homeostasis are regulated by epigenetic phenomena. All the epigenetic mechanisms involved in osteoporosis are described here. Some of them represent promising targets for the prevention or treatment of osteoporosis. The authors also describe three current methods for targeting cellular senescence.
